From available to accessible – the Cerulean Information Factory brings ocean data to decision-makers
This winter, 2024, we were welcomed onto the Cerulean Information Factory team, leading the project’s communications and outreach.
Funded by the European Space Agency, the project is focused on bringing satellite data to decision-makers in three areas: shipping, off-shore renewable energy and aquaculture. It’s been an absolute blast getting to connect with our five project partner organisations in Canada and Europe, as well as building relationships with the people who are experts and working in our three areas and who may be the end users of the tools our team is developing.
Project highlights so far:
Working with Amberlea Williams – we’ve been working together for over ten years now on ocean projects – to create the beautiful logo, icons and other visual materials to give the project that polished look.
Participating in a panel at the OCEANS2024 conference in Halifax with colleagues from NASA and the Canadian Space Agency. And while at OCEANS2024, being interviewed for an IEEE program called TryEngineering, to encourage youth to take an interest in this diverse, growing and important field.
Connecting with stakeholders and colleagues in Copenhagen, Denmark, at our European stakeholder workshop this fall, and afterward as a team taking a public transit harbour boat through the city to dinner. While in town, we were welcomed to the headquarters of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea, where there’s a poster on the wall of the five women leaders in ocean science who we interviewed for a report on gender equity in ocean science for Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Taking the train across the Øresund Strait between Denmark and Sweden to visit Malmö and colleagues at the World Maritime University.
